To play Mark Six, you pick 6 different numbers from 1 to 49; each draw picks 6 Drawn Numbers plus 1 Extra Number, and you win a prize if you match at least 3 of the Drawn Numbers. How a Mark Six draw works
- 7 numbers are drawn from 1 to 49. The first 6 are the Drawn Numbers; the 7th is the Extra Number.
- A single entry is 6 numbers chosen from the 49.
- A multiple entry is 7 or more numbers. It is counted as every possible combination of 6 from the numbers you chose.
The seven prize divisions
- 1st prize: all 6 Drawn Numbers.
- 2nd prize: 5 Drawn Numbers plus the Extra Number.
- 3rd prize: 5 Drawn Numbers.
- 4th prize: 4 Drawn Numbers plus the Extra Number.
- 5th prize: 4 Drawn Numbers.
- 6th prize: 3 Drawn Numbers plus the Extra Number.
- 7th prize: 3 Drawn Numbers.
Under the Hong Kong Jockey Club's rules, the 1st to 3rd prizes are shared prize funds, the 4th to 7th prizes are fixed amounts, and each entry is paid only for the highest division it qualifies for.
What the Extra Number does
The Extra Number only lifts a result into a higher division: 5 Drawn Numbers plus the Extra Number is 2nd prize instead of 3rd, 4 plus the Extra Number is 4th instead of 5th, and 3 plus the Extra Number is 6th instead of 7th. On its own, without at least 3 Drawn Numbers, it does not win a prize.
