What Is Big Road in Baccarat? Road Map Guide
The Big Road is the main scoreboard on a baccarat table: a grid of red and blue circles that records whether Banker or Player won each hand of the current shoe. A new column starts every time the winning side changes. Live baccarat tables usually show it next to the Bead Plate and three smaller derived roads. This guide explains how to read each one and what the roads can and cannot tell you.
Bead Plate: one cell per hand
The Bead Plate is the simplest road. Each hand of the shoe takes one cell, filled from top to bottom, then the next column to the right.
- Red: Banker won.
- Blue: Player won.
- Green: the hand was a tie.
Some tables write a letter or the winning total inside the cell. Because every hand gets its own cell, the Bead Plate is the easiest way to count how many hands have been played.
Big Road: streaks in columns
The Big Road groups hands into streaks:
- Hollow red circle: Banker won. Hollow blue circle: Player won.
- Same side wins again: the next circle goes directly below the last one, in the same column.
- The winning side changes: a new column starts to the right.
- Tie: no new circle. A green slash is drawn through the latest circle, and some tables add a number when there are several ties in a row.
- Pairs: many tables add a small dot to a circle when the hand had a Banker pair or a Player pair. The colour and position of the dot are shown in the table's legend.
The grid is usually six rows deep. When a long streak reaches the bottom, or the next cell is already taken, the streak turns right and continues along the row. Players often call this a "dragon".
The derived roads: Big Eye Boy, Small Road, Cockroach Road
The three smaller roads are built from the Big Road, not from individual hands:
- Big Eye Boy: compares each new entry in the Big Road with the column one place to the left.
- Small Road: compares with the column two places to the left.
- Cockroach Road: compares with the column three places to the left.
In all three, red means the Big Road is following a regular, repeating pattern at that point, and blue means it is not. Red and blue here do not mean Banker and Player. Each derived road also uses its own mark (hollow circles, solid dots or slashes) and starts a little later in the shoe, once the Big Road has enough columns to compare.
What roads can and cannot tell you
- They can: show how many hands have been played, how long streaks have been and how often ties have come up in this shoe.
- They cannot: tell you the next result. Roads are a record of hands already dealt. The next hand follows the same dealing rules no matter what the roads look like, and the roads reset when a new shoe starts.
The rules that decide each hand, including card values and when a third card is drawn, are in baccarat rules for beginners.

FAQ
What is the Big Road in baccarat? The Big Road is the main baccarat scoreboard. Red circles mark Banker wins, blue circles mark Player wins, the same side stacks down a column, and a new column starts when the winner changes. The grid is usually six rows deep, and a long streak that reaches the bottom turns right, which players often call a "dragon".
How are ties shown on the Big Road? Ties are shown on the Big Road as a green slash through the latest circle, not as a circle of their own. Some tables add a number when there are several ties in a row. To count ties hand by hand, the Bead Plate is easier, because it gives every hand its own cell and marks a tie in green.
What do red and blue mean in Big Eye Boy, Small Road and Cockroach Road? In Big Eye Boy, Small Road and Cockroach Road, red means the Big Road is following a regular, repeating pattern at that point, and blue means it is not. They do not mean Banker and Player. The three roads compare the Big Road with the column one, two and three places to the left.
Can baccarat roads predict the next hand? No, baccarat roads cannot predict the next hand; they only record hands that have already been dealt. The next hand is dealt under the same rules whatever the roads show, and the roads reset when a new shoe starts. What they can show is how many hands have been played, how long streaks were and how often ties came up.
